Unraveling..

I have heard too many people use the line "that's how it is, it's the way society operates" as an excuse for ignorance. That fact that our society is set up to function in one way does not make this way of functioning right. Under apartheid society was structured in a way that allowed for all kinds of injustices to be dished out to black people but that did not make it unquestionable; that is why people fought and are still fighting today against it and its legacy. Racism still exists in this world seen in its various overt and more nuanced manifestations all around us. Gender inequality is real and there are established institutions that consciously or unconsciously perpetuate these inequalities. Xenophobia/Afrophobia is the reality of thousands all over the world. So rather than take society at face value let us begin to investigate and interrogate society and the roles we as individuals play in it. In this day and age ignorance cannot be...

Everything happens for a reason.  Call it cliche if you want but I believe it's true. No matter how difficult life gets I remind myself that everything does happen for a reason. That there is a Divine plan that I just cannot fully understand yet. It works every time. Its true that life has a way of snatching every last hope that we may have, threatening the very foundation that makes us who we are but it is never enough reason to give up or lose faith. Every laughter, every tear drop, every smile, every heart ache, every heart break, every pain should be a reminder that there is better ahead, a fuller life with lessons learned. Remember always that even if you are not where you thought you would be at this time of your life, you are better off than where you were yesterday. Taking every mistake, every misfortune, each opportunity, and every blessing as a new turn on the path that leads to where you are meant to be.
